My name is Markéta Cranfordová and I am a freelance Tour Guide with an official Prague guiding licence.
My main focus is guiding individuals, families and small groups.
I was born and grew up in Prague. Both of my parents worked in the city centre and so, as a teenager, I often spent the afternoons downtown exploring the old cobbled streets of Prague.
Then later, once the Czechoslovak borders had opened, while a student at the Prague University of Economics, I spent time in Oxford, England. First on holiday and later on, I received the status of a visiting student at St.Edmund Hall, one of the colleges of Oxford University.
Although having lived in both Prague and Oxford, two unique ancient cities, I had never properly appreciated the history and architecture of the two places. I had taken it all for granted. It was only once I had travelled a bit more that I realised not all places are so beautiful, full of history and so well-preserved.
In 1997 I finished my studies at the Prague University of Economics, with the Travel Industry as my minor subject. In 2004 I successfully completed the Prague Guide course and obtained an Official Prague Guide licence, together with the English Language certificate. Also in 2004 I obtained the Official Prague Castle Guide licence.
Step by step, having already started my guiding activities in my early twenties, I began to see the city of Prague through the eyes of the tourists I was guiding. Ever since then, it has been a passion and I love to show the city to and share its history with those people who come from all over the world to see it. In that sense, it is very rewarding work, to see people enjoying themselves in my city. Hopefully, this is the very incentive that allows me to do this job rather well ….
